Water Resources and Aquatic Ecosystems

Water is central to Nepal’s environment, economy, and culture — sustaining agriculture, biodiversity, energy, and human settlements. The Faculty of Water Resources and Aquatic Ecosystems is committed to the sustainable management, conservation, and equitable use of Nepal’s water resources. This faculty focuses on the protection of rivers, lakes, wetlands, and watersheds while promoting clean water access, aquatic biodiversity conservation, and community-based water management practices.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Watershed management and soil erosion control
  • River, lake, and wetland ecosystem conservation
  • Water quality monitoring and pollution control
  • Sustainable irrigation and water resource management
  • Conservation of aquatic biodiversity (fish, amphibians, aquatic plants)
  • Wetland restoration and management
  • Integrated water resource management (IWRM)

Our faculty collaborates with communities, water user groups, and environmental agencies to ensure the conservation and sustainable utilization of aquatic ecosystems across Nepal.
