Forests cover approximately 40% of Nepal’s land area and are vital for biodiversity, livelihoods, and cultural traditions. The Forestry Faculty at VVRI is dedicated to the sustainable management, conservation, and restoration of Nepal’s forest ecosystems. We aim to empower students, researchers, and forest-dependent communities with scientific knowledge and practical skills.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Forest Conservation & Biodiversity: Protecting Nepal’s rich forest biodiversity, including national parks, community forests, and conservation areas.
  • Community Forestry & Livelihoods: Strengthening Nepal’s globally acclaimed community forestry programs and promoting participatory forest management.
  • Agroforestry & Sustainable Land Use: Integrating trees, crops, and livestock to enhance productivity and sustainability of farmlands.
  • Forest Resource Management: Sustainable utilization of timber, non-timber forest products (NTFPs), medicinal plants, and other resources.
  • Watershed Management & Soil Conservation: Restoring degraded landscapes and protecting watersheds crucial for water security
  • Climate Change Mitigation: Promoting reforestation, afforestation, and REDD+ initiatives to enhance carbon sequestration and combat global warming.

The Forestry Faculty collaborates with government departments, conservation organizations, and local communities to ensure Nepal’s forests continue to thrive for generations.
